Word 2007 has its own built-in dictionary that holds tons of correct spelled words, and so when you type a misspelled it will either try to correct it with Autocorrect, or underline it in red. Though as great as Word's dictionary is it doesn't contain some correct spelled words like my name spelled K-i-r-t. Simply right clicking on my correct spelled name that Word has underlined in red as a misspelled word,and selecting Add to Dictionary will take care of that. However, if you run into a lot of words that for a time you want to tell Word is correct, but not permanently, then add your own custom dictionary. So adding and additional dictionary to Word 2007 default allows you to

later delete your custom dictionary, without Word's default. Last thing you want to do is to recreate the default dictionary Word 2007 has already provided for you. Once you create your additional dictionary, by default Word 2007 will check your custom dictionary first for misspellings, and then check Word's default.
