How do you turn or break up data or text in a cell into columns, and why? Say you have a column for employee names and you want to break that column up into two columns: first and last names. You'll be using the Text to Columns feature in Excel 2007 to break up phrases or groups of words in a cell into their own cells. Back to our employees example. Select the column of employees and then on the Ribbon, click the Data Tab, in Data Tools group click the Text To Columns button and basically follow the steps to convert your text into additional columns.
