What are the RIGHT and SEARCH Functions and how do I used them in Excel 2007? The RIGHT function returns the number of characters at the end of the text or data with in the cell. The SEARCH function will return a calculated number, which if used with the RIGHT function to help return the number of characters from right to left in a cell. The training video here will show you how the functions work in tandem. In addition, the LEN function is used, which counts each character in the cell, minus the SEARCH function of any characters following after the first delimiter or "space." So very useful in capturing the last name in a cell containing both first and last!
