How do I protect my shared workbook in Excel 2007? Before you can share your workbook you must share it and password protect it at the same time. In other words, if you're already sharing a workbook or it's in shared mode you can password protect it until you first un-share it and then add the password at the same time you share it. The purpose of the password is to add the security of not allowing anybody to stop the "sharing" or "tracking changes" without a password, because you may want to always keep track of changes others users make to your Excel workbook.
