What are the Macro Settings and how do I change them in Excel 2007? Macro settings are by default, set to restrict running macros when you open up an Excel workbook containing macros. Why? Because macros can be programmed to harm your computer. So Excel wants to warn you with a message on the message bar every time you open up an Excel 2007 workbook that contains macros, and asking if you trust running these macros. I mean if you created these macros yourself then no problem, but if you receive an Excel workbook containing macros from somebody you don't know and trust then it's best to leave the defaults as is; however, you can change it.
