The three elements that make up a Theme in Excel 2007 are: Fonts, Colors and Effects. So to customize one of the many default themes in Excel, it's easier to first select a Theme on the Page Layout tab and then change an element of the them and save it. You can even create your own custom theme colors and fonts, but effects isn't customizable. Once you've updated or changed a theme you can save it by clicking the on the Themes button on the Page Layout tab in the Themes group to Save Current Theme.
