How do I chart a Trend Line in Excel 2007? First of all a Trend Line is a line marking in the chart, a trend of the numbers or data your chart is based upon. In other words, a line will be drawn to show the up or down trend of your data, and you can even extend that trend by points and go beyond the data. The line can be a solid line or another type of format like a dashed line. The whole purpose is to set the trend of how your data i.e. sales is doing with the current data. While data by numbers is more accurate than a line running through your chart, it's still a quick way to analyze the health of your company's sales.
