What is the AutoOutline feature in Excel 2007? The AutoOutline feature arranges data into groups that can be expanded or collapsed, but data has to be sorted before it can be outlined. In other words, Excel is looking for a consistent pattern for it to apply the feature that can group the data. If your data isn't recognizable to you in a simple structure, then chances are that Excel won't be able to apply the AutoOutline feature and collapse your data into groups. In addition, you'll also have to sort your data before it can be outlined. You can also use the AutoOutline feature, but again will only work if your have your data organized.
